Greece: Ancient Mycenae

Another large Ancient Greek city-state, Mycenae, was prominent around 2nd century BC. The archaeological site is spectacular with the main acropolis (high city) located on a hill overlooking surrounding mountains and fields and fields of olive groves. The entrance to the acropolis is via a famous and spectacular Lion Gate. Further out are two large burial chambers. Finally, a large museum houses loads of Ancient Greek ceramics and jewelry including the world famous Golden Mask.
