Greenland: Greenland Ice Sheet
In the Nansen Bugt, we landed and got to walk on the Greenland Ive Cap. The Greenland Ice Cap aka ice sheet is the second-largest ice body in the world after Antarctica, covering about 1.71 million sq km (660,000 sq mi) and containing roughly 8% of the planet’s fresh water. Its thickness averages 1.5–2 km (0.9–1.2 mi), with a maximum of about 3 km (1.9 mi). It’s quite an experience to walk at the edge of it and even more so when you step on to the real ice sheet that goes from here all the way east and north for hundreds and hundreds of miles!
