Greenland: Nansen Bugt – Arctic Terns
The Arctic tern is a fascinating bird that beats any other bird in a migratory contest. These little guys travel 40,000 km round-trip each year. They breed in the Arctic in the summer and then fly through the whole world to the Antarctic for another summer there. Their lifespan is 30+ years and with this longevity and migration combined they may travel to moon and back at least three times. Arctic terns are highly territorial. They nest on the ground, laying from 1-3 eggs. Both parents take care of their offsprings. And you don’t dare approaching them. This cute bird transforms from a little flying angel to a dive-bombing killing machine. They attack any intruder, including humans.
