Greenland: Prins Christian Sund Fjord – Cruising

Prins Christian Sund is one of the longest and most spectacular fjords in southern Greenland. This narrow fjord-like channel, approximately 100 km (62 mi) long and as narrow as 500 m (1,640 ft) in places, separates the Greenland mainland from the islands of the Cape Farewell Archipelago. It connects the Labrador Sea to the Irminger Sea, offering a dramatic passage flanked by jaggedly steep mountains rising over 1,200 m (3,900 ft) on either side. The long fjord is beyond spectacular, with many glaciers descending from glacial valleys and going straight into the fjord’s waters where they calve large icebergs. We cruised the entire afternoon and into the venting in stunning sunny weather through this unbelievable Greenlandic landscape of mountains and ice.
