Greenland/Svalbard: Birds of the Arctic
While the Arctic is not as high on bird counts as is the Antarctica, there are nevertheless quite a few pure Arctic specialist species, including some really iconic, like the Ivory Gull or the Arctic Tern. The species we saw: Atlantic Puffin, Great Shag, Arctic Tern, Common Eider, Kittiwake, Northern Fulmar, Snow Bunting, Rock Ptarmigan, White-rumped sandpiper, Black Guillemot, Brunnich’s Guillemot, Little Auk, Arctic Skua, Great Skua, Long-tailed Skua, Red-throated Diver, Glaucous Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Ivory Gull, Red Phalarope, Pink-footed Goose, Long-tailed Duck, Barnacle Goose, Turnstone, Buff-breasted sandpiper, and a couple more.
