Greenland: Sydkap Beach – Sunrise
Technically, there is no sunrise in Greenland in the summer – you are above the Arctic cricket and the sun never sets. But it gets low to the horizon, almost slimming it, before rising slowly up. We got to experience this at Sydkap, leaving the ship at 5:30am for a long 6hr hike (the ship clock was never changed to Greenland time from the Svalbard time, so in reality this was 2:30am local time). The mountain were glowing red and orange with the rising sun, and the icebergs floating in the Iceberg Graveyard were all reflecting the sun rays, shining like stars in the night sky.
