Greenland: Timmiarmiit Ø Island – Landing
Timmiarmiit Ø is an uninhabited island in the middle of the Skjoldungen Fjord system, a really remote part of the eastern Greenland. Timmiarmiit Ø translates as “where there are birds” – and we the island is probably a big hauling ground for birds (mostly geese) in the summer – all done by now. We hiked all around island, and climbed to the highest vista point for stupendous view of the fjords, mountains, and a lot of icebergs everywhere. Oh and we found fresh polar bear poop, probably just a few days old – full of crowberries – meaning the polar bears supplement their diet with berries during the ice-free summer months.
