Greenland: Flying over Greenland
It takes about 1.5 hours to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Reykjavik to the east coast of Greenland in a turboprop Dash 8 – and then the wow factor kicks in in full. From 25,000 feet – it is an endless sea of mountains peaking out from a thick cover of icefields and snow – like chocolate chips covered in swirls of vanilla ice-cream. It’s very similar in appearance to flying over Antarctica – never-ending, stark, and beautiful. After another 2 hours crossing over Greenland – the middle is just pure endless snowfield – you land over the icefjord in Ilulissat – the landing alone worth the flight admission price! All those specks of floating ice are actually humongous icebergs the size of a house.
