Greenland: Greenlandic huskies (mushing dogs)
Ilulissat has 4700 people and 2100 mushing Greenlandic husky dogs. It used to be almost 8000 dogs several years ago, but global warming keeps the bay open and unfrozen for much longer rendering dogs useless. With only 10km in of paves roads, dogs are the main means of transport for hunting seals and fishing in winter for pretty much everybody. In the summer, the dogs live in small wooden houses on the outskirts of town, dozens and dozens of them, if not hundreds. They are just sleeping and waiting for daily feedings of raw halibut and other fish.
