Guatemala: Tikal – Montezuma Orapendola

Here’s another bizarre inhabitant of Tikal’s jungle: an exotic tropical bird named Montezuma Orapendola. I am not a birder by any means, but these were quite interesting. They weave weird nests that hang from the trees like large fruit baskets. And then there was the call: the bird does a virtual somersault on a branch while screeching a bizarre multitone song. And finally – look at the colors – I bet some of these birds inspired Mayan colorful face masks
