Guernsey: German Underground Military Hospital
While on paper this looked like a minor attraction, in reality it turned out to be super awesome – several kilometers of underground tunnels built by Germans during WWII as a military hospital. This was a total “Return to Castle Wolfenstein” experience (a first person shooter PC game from the 90s where you go around an abandoned WWII German experimental bio-facility and shoot monsters). It’s dark, cold, damp, and not a person around. Water dripping everywhere, and it’s a total labyrinth of dark tunnels and vertical escape shafts – totally like the game, you walk around expecting a Nazi zombie to pop up and then you realize you are missing your double barrel-gun….. While everyone goes to the beaches in Guernsey, this underground maze of concrete tunnels was fun!
