Guinea: Conakry – Cathedrale Sainte-Marie
St Mary Cathedral in the heart of Conakry was built in 1928-30. The French-pushed Catholicism didn’t really take and when Guinea became independent, the country went Islamic, so the congregation of the ornate cathedral is reportedly rather small – in fact it was totally empty the two times we stopped by. The ochre-colored cathedral has beautiful interior with ornate window and stations of the cross and painted ceiling and walls.
