Haiti: Mountains Above Petion-Ville

Driving south from the Petion-Ville part of port-au-Prince, you quickly rise in elevation to cooler air and forests with some super panoramic and spectacular views of the mountain ranges and the coastline and city below. There are multiple viewpoints such as Observatoire Boutilliers, Furcy, and Kenscoff. From here you can see the Massif de la Selle, the highest mountain range in Haiti, including Pic la Selle, Haiti’s highest peak at 2,680 m (8,793 ft). Another mountain is Montagne Noire, part of the smaller range west of Pétion-Ville, with beautiful views of mountain ridges stretching towards the coastline. Finally, there is Morne l’Hôpital, located closer to Pétion-Ville, and offering some city panoramas. The views are all fantastic with mountains clad in fog and clouds, but the foreground is usually full of trash, no matter where you stop.
