Hawaii/Oahu: Pearl Harbor Memorial

In December 7, 1941, Japanese navy led a surprise attack on the US military at Pearl Harbor. 353 fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo carriers attacked the American military base from the air, destroying and sinking all 8 American battleships, 188 planes parked on runways, and killing over 2000 soldiers. This led to the US entering the WWII. Today, it’s a sprawling memorial site with several restored ships, a submarine and a USS Arizona memorial above the spot where the ship sank (more then half of all casualties came from this explosion). You need to take a boat ride to get to the Arizona memorial.
