Honduras: Copan Archaeological Site – Scarlet Macaws
Scarlet macaw is the national bird of Honduras. It’s a large bird of over 30 inches (80 centimeters) long with extremely beautiful plumage of red, yellow, blue, orange. There were easily dozens if not more of them everywhere in the trees and even low branches…. And! At one point a giant scarlet macaw flew from a tree branch and sat on my shoulder. I nearly freaked out as the guide was saying its ok don’t worry. After 30 seconds of me being frozen, the bird just grabbed my t shirt on the shoulder with its massive beak and ripped it open with two holes… Seriously!
