Ibiza: HI Ibiza – James Hype
James Hype is a controversial deejay – some adore him and some hate him. Just a few years ago he was a small deejay at British second tier clubs, and today he hosts his own residency at HI Ibiza, bringing in massive crowds. Unlike most deejays who focus on track selection and transitions and seamless musing of one track into another, James Hype pushes for technical extremes – he uses four decks running constant loops and mashing it all up – samples, vocals, acapellas, beats and scratches. The result is somewhat of a rough tech house blend that constantly stutters and breaks. His fans adore him for his skills – he never has a pre-planned performance and the entire thing is done live in front of the crowds with four CDJ desks displayed right above him. Not really my cup of tea – it’s too choppy and too much house, with little melodies. But without a doubt – it’s quite a performance and show.
