Ibiza: UNVRS – Anyma, John Summit
UNVRS is the brand new nightclub that just opened in Ibiza on July 25. But everything new is usually something old – this is just a remodeled Privilige club that was the largest club in the world for years in Ibiza. In 2024, Privilege was acquired by the same people who own Ushuaia Club and Hi Club – two other top venues in Ibiza – and completely remodeled and re-invented. It’s most certainly more hi-tech in terms of the DJ stage and electronics of the visual show, but space was significantly sacrificed for all the VIP areas and balconies and the main area feels like sardines in a can without a chance to move. Claustrophobia aside, John Summit got the crowd go wild – this 31 year DJ from Chicago USA entered last years DJ charts at 70 and likely in top 25 this year – fast paced bouncy house. Anyma is Matteo Milleri, an Italian-American producer and DJ (he is part of the duo Tale of Us and co-founder of Afterlife Records). Once going solo a couple years ago, his melodic techno became the style du jour, perhaps eclipsing David Guetta’s future rave. His shows are legendary not just for music but for the surreally stunning futuristic visual (his Las Vegas shows in the Sphere sold out in minutes) – creating a “hybrid persona” that exists across physical and digital realms. Obviously, UNVRS was perfect for Anyma to headline at! Anyma was #17 at DJ Top 100 last year, likely up from there given the style’s rise in pollutants.
