Ibiza: Ushuaia – Tomorrowland – Steve Aoki, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike
Ushuaia is the legendary daytime club in Playa den Bossa in Ibiza, one of the world’s most iconic open-air dance venues in the whole world! It’s also a hotel and you can stay here and watch daily shows from your balcony – but to truly experience it, you need to be in the heart of the crowd and in front of the stage. Lots of good vantage points of the stage from near and far and the crowds get rowdier and dance as the evening progresses from warm up acts – like 44Coles, Diego Miranda, Cheat Codes to the main headliners. Steve Aoki is one of the most famous global deejays and perhaps the most famous US deejay, hailing from Miami in Florida (he’s actually the son of Rocky Aoki, founder if Benihana restaurant chain). He came into the deejay scene with the EDM wave of the 2010s and has been a top name ever since, consistently in the top 10 for 11 years, and just slipped to number 13 last year. His performances are usually more of a show then deejay skill – he spends half of his time jumping on stage, pouring champagne into the crowd, and throwing cakes at people (he’s quite good at that and famous for it). He doesn’t really have a style and has produced and collaborate with other starts across dance music genres – from big room to pop to hour to raeggaton to hardstyle to you-name-it-style. Perhaps it’s not his deejaying skill, but his ability to adapt and wow the crowd with crazy gimmicks that gets him consistent following and fame. Oh and he premiered his new single which is a remake of Cascada’s “Everytime We Touch”, hardly changed from original – but Cascada herself joined him on stage to perform live! And to close out the massive night in Ushuaia it was the deejay duo of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike with fireworks, shooting flames, smoke, and all Imaginable EDM styles (Steve Aoki joined them on stage at the end). Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are two Belgiam deejays who broke through im the world deejay stage in the heydays of 2010s big room EDM. They launched their own music like Smash the House in 2010 and collaborated with many high fliers, eventually closely alighting themselves with the Tomorrowland festival (their 2015 hit “The Hum” became the true anthem) and they were voted #1 deejay in the world in 2015 (which was somewhat rigged because hundreds of people were walking around Tomorrowland festival with iPads asking the partygoers to vote for the DJ Mag 100 deejays ranking, but the only choice given on the iPads was “Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike”). Once regained as number one, they’ve consistently ranked as #1 (twice) or #2 (six times) or #3 (3 times) in the last 11 years – in aggregate being the highest-ranked deejays of for the last decade – beating David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, Tiesto, and Hardwell!
