Iceland: Glambaer Turf Houses

Wanna see how people lived in Iceland hundreds of years ago? Glambaer Museum preserves a set of historic turf houses and larger buildings with a church. The farm existing in the place at the bottom of the Scogarfjordur Fjord in the northern Iceland since 874, most of the turf houses are from the 18th century, while the building and the spectacular church are from the late 19th. With lack of trees in Iceland, most houses where build by digging into the ground and then covering the roofs and walls with layers upon layers of thick turf with grass growing on top (turf actually offers much more superior insulation relative to stone or wood). You can enter all the houses and see all the interior rooms.
