Iceland: Gunnuhver Geothermal Area
Gunnuhver is one of Iceland’s most active geothermal sites located on the southwestern tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula. This area is renowned for its powerful steam vents, bubbling mud pots, and colorful mineral deposits, creating a surreal, otherworldly landscape, that is constantly changing. In fact, the wooden path has already been destroyed a couple times by the ever changing volcanic landscapes moves. The highlight is Iceland’s largest mud pot, a violently boiling cauldron reaching temperatures over 100C (212F). Steam erupts forcefully from vents, carrying a strong sulfur scent.
