India: Calcutta – St Pauls Cathedral
In Kolkatta, which served as the capital of the British Indian territorial for almost two centuries before being swapped for New Delhi, you can stumble onto many fine examples of British architecture. Like the massive St Pauls Cathedral that seems completely out of place here in India and belongs rather in Canterbury (in fact it’s loosely modeled on that). The gothic cathedral was built in 1847 and was the largest church in British overseas empire at the time.
