India: Jaipur – Iswar Minar Minaret
You wanna get a good view of Jaipur – head to the Iswar Minar minaret right in the center of the city near city palace. The 45m tall structure was built in 1740 as a stand-alone tower by one a maharaja commemorating his father. Inside the minaret, a spiral walkway (not a staircasep – it’s flat but steeply inclined) leads to the top where 360 degree views open up in all directions. Strangely, for a touristy city like Jaipur nobody bothers to come here because the entrance is well hidden behind buildings and other residential structures. And an even greater bonus – there was a cute photogenic bat just hanging out inside the minaret (maybe the maharaja’s spirit).
