India: Jaipur – Pink City
Jaipur is known as the “Pink City”. The color is not random and is actually enforced by law. It all goes back to 1876, when British Prince Albert came to visit the city and the Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II wanted to impress him to no limit. So the maharaja decided to repaint the entire city into terracotta pink color since this is traditionally viewed in India as the color of welcoming and hospitality. While not the whole city is pink these days, the main streets that are most visible and open are all uniformly colored. Come here at sunset and the pink is even more accentuated by the setting sun.
