India: Madurai – St Mary’s Cathedral
A beautiful whitewashed St Mary’s Cathedral is a true gem in Madurai. It was founded in 1840 and expanded in 1916 as the Catholic community grew in Madurai. Gothic and Neo-Romanesque elements. It features two 42-meter bell towers, intricate carvings, arches, and stained glass windows depicting biblical scenes. The interior has high ceilings with bright orange vaulting.
