India: Mullik Ghat Flower Market under Howrah Bridge
It’s messy, noisy, dirty, hectic, chaotic, but still memorizing and fascinating – a large flower market located almost literally under a huge Howrah Bridge. The flowers are for the most part for the prayers in temples as every Hindu god or goddess has certain flowers dedicated to them. There are rose petals in big sacks, colorful yellow and white wreaths, and various leaves and other blooms and buds. It’s a place of contrasts – flowers vs dilapidated shacks, dirt and mud, and sellers who live here and bathe in the river just behind the market. It’s all authentic, local, and not touristy.
