India: Mumbai – Sunset on Marine Drive
Marine Drive is where huge crowds come out to watch the sunset over the Arabian Sea. The long crescent of a waterfront promenade was built in 1920 on reclaimed land and is not iconic for the Mumbai skyline. The sun sets into the smoggy layer of dusk, and the faraway buildings start twinkling with smog-diffused lights, as hundreds of Mumbaians take selfies and breather the smog-rich air. Marine Drive is immediately reminiscent of the Malecon in Havana and Marginal in Luanda, but with more smog and the sea smelling not so good.
