India: Pondicherry – Sacred Heart Basilica
One church definitely stands out in the French-influenced Pondicherry – Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was built by French missionaries in 1908 – a gothic church with pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and stained glass windows depicting scenes from the life of Jesus. It is one of the oldest churches in Pondicherry, reflecting the city’s French colonial heritage. While not too crowded, the church has a lot of statues of bleeding Jesuses, like you can get three in one since shot!
