Indonesia: Flores – Kelimutu Craters
This was one of the main reasons to come to Flores – Kelimutu Craters. Kelimutu is an active volcano with multiple calderas filled with lakes. The crater lakes are all of different colors, and the hue changes depending on the volcanic activity, rain, and other factors. The best time – is to arrive here for sunrise when the colors are most vivid. At the time of my visit, the lakes were black, green, and azure. The black lake is called Tiwu Ata Bupu (Lake of Old People), while the green one is Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai (Lake of Young Men and Maidens), and the most bright and unusual azure lake is d Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched or Enchanted Lake).
