Indonesia: Rinca & Komodo – Komodo Dragons
One of the seven natural wonders of the world – Komodo dragons – live on the on the Rinca and Komodo islands in Indonesia. Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) is the largest species of monitor lizards in the world, growing to 3 m (10 ft) long and weighing up to 70 kg (150 lb). They developed to this size due to being the top of the food chain predators on the islands in the absence of anybody else to challenge them. As you hike around the island, you can come quite close face to face with these massive creatures.
