Indonesia/Sumatra: Medan – Maimun Palace
Maimun Palace is the 19th-century palace that served as the seat of the Sultanate of Deli and is considered one of the most beautiful palaces in Indonesia due to its unique fusion style – built in 1888, it was designed by a Dutch architect Thomsen and blends five distinct styles: Malay, Islamic, Indian, Spanish, and Italian. The architecture is Indian, while the bright yellow exterior is the traditional Malay royalty color on Sumatra, the arches are Islamic-style and middle eastern, while the doors are Spanish, and the marble is Italian.
