Iran: Exploring Yazd
Yazd is known as the City of Windtowers due to prevalence of this type of cooling architectural constructs throughout the city. Yazd has an over 5000 year history of habitation, and is one of the most ancient cities on earth. It was the last stand of the Zoroastrians in Persia. Exploring the walled old town, you get to see the wall with turret towers, various wind towers on the streets, several mosques and tombs, and the Zoroastrian Fire Temple. Yazd is also one of the largest cities built almost entirely out of adobe. There is also the Alexander Prison, supposedly built by Alexander the Great, but that fact is disputed.
