Ireland: Connemara Coast Beaches

Connemara Coast stretches west from Galway and is a coastline of rocky beaches. This is where the glaciers retreated 10,000 years ago, leaving behind lots of broken granite – from large monoliths to small pebbles. The tides are dramatic here as well, so a lot of these rock beaches get covered with water. At low tide, the rocky beaches reveal expansive intertidal zones blanketed in dense mats of kelp with thousands of tidal pools and seaweed.
