Operating continuously since 1788, this spectacular covered food market has survived fires, civil unrest, and economic downturns to remain the beating heart of the city’s food culture. Inside, underneath the 19th century historic vaulted ceilings, is a total sensory explosion of seafood – fish and shellfish (including loads of wild Atlantic salmon), meats, vegetables, fruits, flowers, and all kinds of smells! While long treasured by locals, the market achieved global fame in 2011 when Queen Elizabeth II made a historic visit here during her state tour of Ireland.
