The Dublin Castle dates back to 1170s and days of King John, the first Lord of Ireland under Britain. The castle complex, albeit significantly rebuilt and remodeled, served as the seat of the local Irish government under England/Britain until 1921 and the Irish independence. Today the castle is mostly a museum with ornate e state apartments and also ceremonial location for various official ceremonies. The museum is quite extensive and lavish, with loads of paintings and art and ultra ornate decoration and ornaments all over.
