Ireland: Dunguaire & Newtown Castles
Ireland is peppered by medieval castles (often ruined), like perhaps no other country on the planet. Dunguaire, dating to 16th century, is one of the more beautiful ones, standing on a hill and surrounded by defensive walls with a high tower in the middle proudly waving the flag. Newtown Castle is also a 16th century structure, with yet another high round tower rising above the surrounding lands.
