Ireland: Galway – Galway Cathedral

The humongous Galway Catgedral Stan’s solo on the west bank of the River Corrib. Completed in 1965 on the site of the old county jail, it is known as the last great stone cathedral of Europe – featuring a unique blend of Renaissance, Romanesque, and Gothic influences, topped by a huge green Renaissance-style dome. The interior is equally grand and impressive – massive Connemara marble floors, cut-stone artistry, stained glass windows, including the stunning Rose Window, and a famous mosaic depicting President JFK on his visit to Galway in 1963.
