Israel: Ancient Caesarea

The ancient city of Caesarea was built in 25-13 BC as a key port outpost of the Roman Empire in Judea. It later was the capital of the Byzantine Palaestina Prima. Successive Arab, Crusader, and Mamluk invasions and conquests followed. The national park preserves the ancient Roman ruins, including a spectacular amphitheater and arena as well as many ancient columns. Further north are the ancient city wall fortifications and religious buildings. It’s an incredible location, right on the coast of the Mediterrinean, with the waves almost lapping the ancient Roman baths still covered with mosaics.
