Israel: Dead Sea – The Lowest Place on Earth
The Dead Sea – a place that is on everyone’s bucketlist, the lowest spot on Earth at 429 m (1,407 ft) below sea level. With salt concentration at 35%, it’s also one of the saltiest bodies of water on the planet. The Dead Sea stretches for 50km between Israel and Jordan and is actually the northern part of the Great Rift Valley. Given the salt concentration, the water density is 1.25 times normal, so the must-do thing here is to float. It is a very surreal experience as you can pretty much semi-sit in the water or read a newspaper. Just don’t swallow the water (which I accidentally tried), since it’s beyond awful.
