Israel: Jerusalem – Mount Zion

Mount Zion is a hill just outside the western wall of the old city. Overlooking the sprawling walled old city below, Mount Zion has a smorgasbord of sites all jammed next to each other (like everything else is in Jerusalem. Not in the order of any importance, first there is the Last Supper Room (this is where the Last Supper took place) – not a very large, columned room, rather dark and empty. Take a few turns from it and you come to King David’s Tomb (the place where David, King of Israel, is buried) – now a site of prayers. Finally dominating the hill and visible from far away is the magnificent Benedictine Abbey of the Dormition aka Basilica of the Assumption.
