Italy: Siena – Exploring the City
There is a lot more stuff to see in Siena beyond the stunning cathedral. The heart of Siena is the Plazza del Campo square – one of Europe’s most iconic public spaces with the Palazzo Pubblico and the 102m tower, Torre del Mangia. Other attractions include Basilica of San Domenico, Pinacoteca Nazionale art gallery, Fortezza Medicea fortress, city gates. Or you can just roam the narrow cobblestone streets with towering building above them, almost obscuring all the sun light. Siena has a long history from Roman times to present and is really a “living medieval city,” blending history, art, and its Tuscan identity.
