Italy: Rome – Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine
Colosseum (also known as Flavian Amphetheater) is located in the heart of ancient Rome. It is the largest amphitheater in the world and one of the greatest examples of Roman architecture and engineering. It was built between 70 and 80 AD and could hold between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators, and was used for gladiatorial contests. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beside the Colosseum stands the Arch of Constantine, built in 312 AD.
