When you climb up to the top of the coastal cliffs from the beach at Kvalrossbukta, you get to a panoramic observation point that is aptly named Moon Surface Viewpoint. Seriously! And it absolutely accurately describes what you see – desolate black lava sand covered desert with hills and craggy cliffs jutting out from this weird ground here and there. “Surreal” doesn’t even begin to describe what you see all the way to the cloud-covered horizon. Just wow!! Beyond all expectation! The island’s volcanic activity is still ongoing and eruptions keep happening to this day.
