Exploring of Jan Mayen continues. Beyond the Moon Surface Viepooint, a diet lava sand road leads for several kilometers toward an air strip in the middle of the island across the Neumayertoppen Valley. It’s more of the same lunar landscape of volcanic hills, lava outcrops, and a lot of black and red sand, covered with green. All of it is shrouded in fog and low hanging clouds. The land looks like it is brand new and in fact 3 sq kilometers of the island’s territory was added as recently as 1970 during the eruption of the island’s main volcano (in the north).
