Japan/Honshu: Hiroshima – Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
At the center of the Peace Memorial Park sits a modernist building of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, document the event of the atomic bombing in 1945 and the ensuing and lasting aftermath. The museum is very somber and displays the history and photographs of the city prior to bombing, details of the blast and the devastation and death. Fragments of personal belongings, warped and melted iron and cement pieces, photographs and descriptions give a full picture of what and how it happened. There are also entire storylines of people and families who survived and then suffered from the consequences. A large hall describes how the nuclear bombs work and the effort to reduce nuclear weapons in the world.
