Japan/Kyushu: Beppu – Jigoku Meguri Geothermal Area
The town of Beppu is famous for its hot springs as it sits basically on the edge of the caldera. Just on the town outskirts there are several different geothermal areas, the biggest of which is Jigoku Miguri aka “Hell’s Tour. Here, there are several volcanic features all in one – a cobalt blue lake, a red pond, several huge fumaroles and steam vents. Plus there is a large greenhouse where the volcanic steam cultivated rare tropical plants.
