Jersey: St. Helier – capital of Jersey
The town of St. Helier is the historic capital of Jersey and the largest town in the country, by a wide margin. It is the site of a large bay and a port and the Elizabeth Castle defending it from the sea (previous post). Still, it’s pretty small, with a dense historic area of pedestrian streets, shopping areas, historical 1882 market with cast iron gates, several churches and monuments. Another cool area is the marina (which empties of water with low tide) and the massive beach.
