Kamchatka (Russia): Flying to & from Kurilskoye Lake
Kamchatka Peninsula is the size of the state of Texas in the USA, but only has about 150km of paved roads. So the most common means of transportation is actually by a helicopter – large 30-person seating MI-8 built back in the 80-90’s and some battle-tested in Afghanistan. It’s most definitely a trilling ride from the capital to Kurilskoye Lake in the south of the peninsula, with panoramic views of the ocean on one side and conical volcanic peaks coming through the clouds all along the way.
