Kazakhstan: Birch Groves of Northern Kazakhstan

Driving through the North Kazakhstan province, it was the spectacular landscape of endless groves of pure birth trees – all gold in color with ultrawhite sparkling bark. Birch trees are often the first trees to colonize new, often acidic soils – something that is common in northern Kazakhstan where vast territories were turned into wheat and corn fields during Soviet times, often with little success. We couldn’t help stopping and taking a walk in these pure birch forests.
