Kenya: Lake Nakuru NP – Olive Baboons
Olive baboon (aka Anubis baboon) is the most widespread baboon species found all over central Africa in 25 countries. This is the baboon that is the most aggressive of all and is the most likely to snatch your food or flat out attack you. They live in large groups of 40-150 individuals. Females always stay with the group and have a highly hierarchical society, while males fight for females, moving from group to group. Olive baboons can adapt to almost any environment and are highly omnivorous – they eat everything from roots to grass to leaves to insects to even carrion. The troops are highly organized and orderly – they forage together at the same time, groom at the same time, sleep at same time and so on – like in a perfect commune. I think this is what communism could have been like.
