Kenya: Masai Ostrich Farm
About 30km outside of Nairobi was this Masai Ostrich Farm, breeding Masai ostriches. Most are bred for eggs and meat. An ostrich egg makes an omelette for 12 people, while meat is often viewed as exotic and is exported as game. Most ostriches get to live only 8 months before becoming meat products, while the lucky few get to grow to become producers. The world famous Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi gets its meat from here.
